For Bottom's mask in the Hartford Stage production of Midsummer Night's Dream, designer Ilona Somogyi, wanted a Picasso / Munch-esque feel with the look of carved wood. I sculpted the base, made a silicone mold, and created the mask out of liquid plastic. Mixing some sawdust into the plastic was the perfect trick to make it porous enough to take woodstain.
